London Fashion Week Backstage!

ELLE & L’Oréal Paris

NEW TALENT

Rose backstage at London Fashion week

James Kaliardos at the Gavin Douglas show

The second part of the prize was to assist James Kaliardos at London Fashion Week. I was very excited about this as it’s been my life long dream to work backstage at London Fashion Week. I couldn't wait to meet James and the rest of the team.

The first show I assisted on was on the Gavin Douglas show located in the Harrods Loading Bay. I loved the atmosphere at this show and backstage, it was all very urban and edgy looking. The make-up look for this show reflected the location and style of Gavin Douglas's designs: it was a thick black 'cat eye' with a very fresh, natural base and lips. The eye make-up was applied using the L’Oréal Paris Super Liner, which looked very easy to use and did the job Beautifully!

Assisting James Kaliardos was such a great opportunity as I’ve been following his work since I started doing make-up. I watched James working continuously! He applies the make-up so naturally and makes it look so easy! On this show there were television cameras and photographers surrounding him, everyone wanted to interview him! Once all the make-up and hair had been done and the models were dressed everything looked amazing, and the show was fantastic!

Basso and Brooke

The next show I assisted on was the Basso and Brooke show at the Louise T Blouin Institute. This was a very modern, contemporary location again reflecting the designers. Backstage I had my own make-up table, with all the L’Oréal products lined up ready to begin the make-up. I joined the rest of the make-up team to watch James demonstrating the required make-up look on one of the models.

The look was very soft, and fresh. The base was very fresh and had a captured a sheen down the cheekbones and brow. No make-up was applied on the eyelid, only around the socket line - in sheer blues, purples and greens to create mystical, 'almost alien' (James' words!) look!. The lips were slightly rouged and blunted at the edges. The L’Oréal eye shadows we used for this were fantastic, they are part of the L’Oréal Paris, Color Appeal Star Secrets Trio range, and added a beautiful sheen as they were applied. I also discovered the new 'Glam Shine 6hr' lip gloss which really does last for hours and comes in a fantastic range of different colours.

Fashion Fringe

The last show I worked on was at the Fashion Fringe show located in Covent Garden. This was my favourite show to work backstage at. The atmosphere was buzzing, there were so many people working backstage, more make-up artists and hairstylists than before. There were four different make-up looks designed specifically for the four different designers!

I loved all of the looks, they were very bold. My favourite was for Andrea McWha, it was a platinum blonde wig, chin length bob with a blunt fringe. The make-up was a light base with a very thick monobrow draw over the eyebrows! It was a crazy look but I loved it because it was so original! Watching this show was fantastic all the designs, hair and make-up came together so well to create such unique looks, I loved watching it all!
